‘The Wizard of Oz’ to Debut as Immersive Experience at Sphere in Las Vegas
TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT THESPHERE.COM
LAS VEGAS (June 10, 2025) — Sphere Entertainment Co. announced Tuesday that tickets are now on sale for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, a fully immersive experience designed to place audiences inside the world of the classic 1939 film.
Developed in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google and Magnopus, the production will open Aug. 28 at Sphere in Las Vegas as part of The Sphere Experience, the venue’s signature content series. Tickets are available at thesphere.com.
Using Sphere’s advanced technologies — including a 160,000-square-foot interior display, haptic seats, environmental effects and custom scents — the experience aims to reimagine The Wizard of Oz for a new generation. The original film, which was shot in the 4:3 format, has been adapted to envelop the venue’s massive curved screen. Sound has also been remastered and re-orchestrated for Sphere’s 167,000-speaker Immersive Sound system.
Audiences will follow Dorothy and her friends down the Yellow Brick Road as if they’re part of the journey, with key moments enhanced through sensory effects and a redesigned audio-visual presentation.
To celebrate the announcement, Sphere revealed a large-scale outdoor installation of the Wicked Witch of the East’s legs beneath the venue, complete with 22-foot ruby slippers. The display is accompanied by a scene on the Exosphere showing Dorothy’s farmhouse falling from a tornado. Public viewing times are listed on the venue’s website.
“If you’ve ever wondered if Oz actually exists — it does inside Sphere,” said Jim Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment. “The Wizard of Oz at Sphere will put on full display what Sphere is capable of as an experiential medium.”
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairs and CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, said the original film, already a technical marvel in its time, finds new life at Sphere. “Audiences will have the chance to see the film adapted into an entirely new and groundbreaking medium that celebrates the wonder and glory of its Technicolor roots,” they said in a joint statement.
Ben Grossmann, CEO of Magnopus, emphasized the goal of creating a deep emotional connection. “This project brings together some of the greatest film historians, artists and technologists to do what’s never been possible before — putting the audience inside the world of the film,” he said.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, called the project “a first-of-its-kind experience” made possible by advanced cloud technologies.
The experience was developed by Sphere Studios, which assembled a team of more than 1,000 artists, technologists and researchers. The approximately 75-minute runtime will feature scenes and music from the original film while introducing new immersive elements.
The creative team includes producer Jane Rosenthal (The Irishman), visual effects artist Ben Grossmann (Hugo), editor Jennifer Lame (Oppenheimer) and creative director Zack Winokur (Little Island).
Showtimes will be held daily beginning Aug. 28. Tickets start at $104. Group and suite inquiries can be made at the contact information listed on thesphere.com. Hotel packages are available through The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, which is connected to Sphere.
