SeaWorld San Diego debuts Jewels of the Sea-The Ultimate Jellyfish Experience
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The largest standalone jellyfish exhibit in the country opens at SeaWorld San Diego.
Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience at SeaWorld San Diego. The exhibit is designed to captivate and educate visitors about various jellyfish species. Three galleries showcase a variety of jellyfish, from shallow ocean levels to the deep unknown.
Visitors will begin with an introduction to the fascinating world of jellyfish, answering key questions about their stings, life cycles, and anatomy. The exhibit houses nine unique varieties of jellyfish species on display in over 15 aquariums. This includes one of the largest jellyfish cylinders in the country, a cascading water globe filled with jellyfish, and a fully interactive LED gallery that brings the ocean's wonders to life.
Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience provides a deep dive into the jellyfish life cycle, anatomy, and conservation—one of the key reasons SeaWorld San Diego created this experience. The exhibit also underscores SeaWorld's commitment to marine education and the preservation of ocean ecosystems.
SeaWorld has partnered with Washed Ashore, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ocean conservation, to present a powerful new art installation. Just outside the exhibit is the life-sized Lion’s Mane Jellyfish sculpture, made from upcycled marine debris. This striking reminder of the devastating impact of plastic pollution on aquatic life, crafted from discarded materials like ropes, plastic bottles, and foam buoys, symbolizes the urgent need to reduce waste and protect our oceans.
"We’re thrilled to introduce Jewels of the Sea, a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can witness the breathtaking beauty of jellyfish-like never before,” said Tyler Carter, Park President of SeaWorld San Diego. “This exhibit not only celebrates these captivating creatures but also highlights their critical role in ocean ecosystems. The Washed Ashore sculpture amplifies the message of ocean conservation and encourages all of us to reflect on how we can help reduce ocean pollution.”
To enhance the experience, SeaWorld also offers the exclusive Jelly Up-Close Tour, which takes visitors behind the scenes to get a closer look at its jellyfish propagation program. Visitors have a hands-on opportunity to interact with these animals in an educational setting.
