IMAX, Mercury Studios and FilmRise, a Radial Entertainment company, announced Wednesday that the iconic concert film Prince – Sign O’ the Times will be released in IMAX theaters worldwide for the first time. The limited run begins Aug. 29.
The 1987 film, directed by Prince and featuring performances by Sheila E. and Prince’s band, has been remastered using IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering (DMR) technology to enhance image and sound quality, offering audiences a fully immersive viewing experience.
Sign O’ the Times is widely regarded as capturing Prince at his creative peak, combining concert footage with cinematic storytelling and powerful visuals. The IMAX release features improved audio, optimized theater geometry and high-resolution visuals, bringing Prince’s dynamic stage presence to a new generation of fans.
The film includes some of Prince’s most iconic tracks, such as “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” the title track “Sign O’ the Times” and the hit duet with Sheena Easton, “U Got the Look.” It highlights Prince’s musicianship, innovation and enduring cultural influence.
IMAX will distribute the film in the United States, while Pathé Live will handle international distribution. The three companies previously collaborated on the global release of Queen Rock Montreal.
