PANTEÓN ROCOCÓ Makes History with Two Sold-out Shows in CDMX Celebrating 30 years of Music and Resistance
What the Mexican band and their audience, now a big Rococó family, experienced on November 27 and 28 at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City was not just a couple of concerts: they were two unforgettable nights that will go down in Mexican rock history! More than 120,000 people joined in a single chorus to celebrate the 30-year musical career of one of Mexico’s most important bands.
They were sublime nights, filled with the energy of anthems that fans have engraved on their skin and in their souls. With a parade of guests and the power of Panteón Rococó, the celebration was a true festival of luminaries and camaraderie. The stage was filled with rock stars who shared the euphoria with the band, including Pascual Reyes, Carolina Ross, María Daniela y su Sonido Lasser, María Barracuda, Sabino, LNG/SHT, Alemán, Fratta, Lengualerta, PeeWee, Amilcar, not to mention the lucky break they gave to a new talent, Gabrielle.
From the moment the first chords of “Punk – 0” rang out, the stadium became a battlefield of pure emotion. The musical journey took them to “Asesinos,” “Estrella Roja,” and “Ciudad de la Esperanza.” Each song was an euphoric explosion; the entire crowd chanted the lyrics from beginning to end. The maestro Dr. Shenka demonstrated the same energy and strength that has characterized him for three decades, as if the years had not passed, as if it were 1995 when Panteón began this wonderful story, which has taken them on tour to dozens of countries.
The setlist was a veritable collection of hits that sparked euphoria. After a spectacular start, the audience was swept away by nostalgia and ska with unmissable gems such as “Vendedora de Caricias,” the emotional “No Te Recuerdo,” and the contagious energy of “La Dosis Perfecta.” The intensity remained high until reaching ecstasy with “Esta Noche,” culminating, of course, with the anthem that unites generations: the powerful and celebrated “La Carencia,” leaving the audience with their hearts pounding and their throats hoarse from singing so much. These nights will remain etched in our hearts and will undoubtedly go down in history. Having been part of the celebration of Panteón Rococó’s 30th anniversary is an event that all fans of the group will treasure forever.
On how the group has stayed together for 30 years, Dr. Shenka (lead singer) comments: “I think what stands out most about this band is the level of communication. We are a very complex band, I have to say, because we have many leaders and few followers. Here we work on a completely different concept that, let’s say, we learned within our musical career and ideals. Discussion, debate, opening up the space for everyone to communicate their ideas, their concerns, or what they don’t like. And I think that has set the tone for us to reach 30 years with the same members. There has been involvement and commitment from each member so that the project, as such, comes to fruition. We are a band that has known how to communicate and understand each other, and that keeps us going.”
But the party doesn’t end here. The celebrations continue! Next year, Panteón Rococó’s energy will reach new cities so that more fans can join the dance. The 30th anniversary tour will continue throughout Mexico, so we can keep singing and dancing together in Cancún, Mérida, Toluca, Querétaro, León, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The international tour will be announced in January.
